We raise all our own animals on the pasture using regenerative agriculture practices. Regenerative Agriculture consists of no-till cropping, keeping the soil covered, diversity of plant species, and adaptively grazing livestock. Using these principles, we grow our own non-gmo grains for feed, including corn, soybeans, barley, and wheat, as well as pasture mixes for grazing and winter feed. Our Goal is to connect families directly with their food source. Good food starts with healthy soils.
I farm with my brother Ralph and our sons,Josh and Daniel. The farm name is T&R Dairy Farm LLC. We milk 200 cows and do cash grain, corn, beans, and wheat. We are located in Watertown Wisconsin. We been doing notill and planting green for more than 10 years. I am Chairman of Dodge County Farmers for Healthy Soil and Healthy Water ,farmer lead group that I helped start in 2017. I am active in helping Farmers start to practice regenerate agriculture and share my knowledge to help other farmers to start there own group. We now have more than 47 farmer lead groups in Wisconsin.
I'm grazing cattle on our farm near Highland, Illinois. Using adaptive grazing practices, we're seeing soil health, along with the entire ecosystem of the farm, improve. We now have increased the diversity of species above and below ground, birds, insects, and soil biology.
We are the third generation on the family farm practicing traditional farming until last year, when we began cover crops and no-tilling. While we realize that this is a process, we’re committed to start planting in soil, rather than dirt. It’s not too late to begin giving back to Mother Nature. We have primarily had a corn/soybean rotation for many years. In the past, we have done wheat, sweetcorn and pumpkins. While we are new to the regenerative ag process, we look forward to learning and sharing with others in this group.
I have a decades-long portfolio of experience working with NGOs, businesses and industry leaders involved in all facets of production agriculture, agribusiness and conservation. I currently serve as a board member and was past chair of Holistic Management International. I see my role with SoIL Farmers as an opportunity to significantly increase adoption of regenerative agriculture throughout the nation and beyond.
